CLEVELAND INSTITUTE OF MUSIC NAMES JOEL SMIRNOFF PRESIDENT
Joel Smirnoff Joel Smirnoff, first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet and former chair of the violin department at The Juilliard School, has been appointed president of CIM.

CIM will hold a special concert on March 29 at 7:00 p.m. in memory of long-time head of the CIM composition department, renowned composer Donald Erb. Acclaimed conductor Leonard Slatkin will lead the CIM Orchestra during the concert, which will feature works by Mr. Erb performed by CIM students and faculty.

CIM alumnus William Neil has written a tribute to his former teacher and CIM faculty member Donald Erb. You can read the piece, entitled Don did not go gently into that good night: William Neil remembers his mentor and teacher on Neil's web site.

CIM and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History collaborated on a unique project bringing new music to the Museum experience. Seven students in the CIM composition department were commissioned to write short works for each of the Museum's seven galleries. Learn more about these pieces - and hear them - by clicking here.
