Be a Prep Practice-a-thon Participant!

Join our Practice-a-thon, October 2005

The Preparatory Division of the Cleveland Institute of Music has been in operation since 1920. It enriches the fabric of the Cleveland community by providing music lessons to over 1,700 young people and adults. In the month of October we will highlight CIM's Preparatory Division students with a Prep Practice-a-thon.

Mission for the Prep Practice-a-thon

Throughout the month of October, Prep students will commit to daily practice. Our mission is to strengthen student's practice habits while supporting CIM in its efforts to raise money for the Campaign for CIM to expand our campus. Construction has already begun to provide additional space for performance, teaching and practice. Upon its completion in 2007, Prep students will be able to see their fund raising efforts exhibited in the new Gilliam Family Music Garden and in Prep performances in the new 250-seat Mixon Hall.

What do you need to do?

STEP 1: Find sponsors (mom, dad, family, friends, neighbors, teachers) starting September 17th, who will pledge a certain amount for each minute of practice. Suggested amounts - pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters. Even one penny a day can make a difference!!

STEP 2: Practice daily (minimum 15 minutes) during the month of October. Keep track of your practice minutes on the Daily Practice Log (downloadable here). The more you practice the more you are helping CIM and improving your playing!

STEP 3: Collect pledges the first week of November.

STEP 4: Turn in your pledge money and Daily Practice Log to your CIM private instructor the week of November 7-11.

STEP 5: CIM faculty will turn in their studio's Daily Practice Logs and pledge money in a manila envelope to the Prep office no later than November 12, 2005 for their students to be eligible for prizes.

(Pledge money will still be accepted after that date.)

Prizes?

Prizes will be awarded to students that have practiced the most minutes and raised the most money for each of the following three levels:

  • Level 1: students age 3-6
  • Level 2: students age 7-12
  • Level 3: students age 13-adult
